In the company of the great and noble…

30 June 2012 No Comment

The past few week has been trying for many reasons: the less said on them the better. But in the madness of it all, I thought I should pay my respects to the best roommates one can ever ask for: Henry, George & Arthur.

They are cats and not everyone’s cup of tea…which is something I share with them, and every-time I have a moment of self-doubt or self-scathing depreciation- I only have to look to them, watch them in their regal gait, stretching yawn, feel their nonchalance for the insignificant…and you really do feel better…tonnes better…like an ice-cream for your soul better.

Henry & George, Henry & Arthur

So its the new Gonsalves clan forming right in my living room. Henry & George were immediate siblings, however, George decided to take a jump out of my window and has not looked back. Arthur is Henry’s sibling for another batch of the same mum, currently at 2 months.

Everyone has this idea, this idea that cats are conniving and evil. I think that’s what smart people can branded as by their lesser gifted counterparts!! Henry has figured how to open the window, how to tap on the latch on my door hard enough to wake me up, responds to my requests to sit, come and STOP…hell, he even teaches little Arthur all these naughty things he has learnt in the name of survival…

Arthur is extremely brave and unafraid, and hence my Kowabunga Ninja for the moves he’s into when he decides my hand is a toy…

They are extremely endearing: run to the door when you get home (don’t be fooled, they are plain hungry!!), will sit next to you when you have to study, and still sit next to you when you are crying stuck in the middle of break-up, will flash their tummy for a wee rub when they trust you, follow you around when you switch rooms…

The best part is they even clean up after themselves sans any training…

It’s not really much they ask for…just water, food, a fair roof over their head, you play with them for a wee 15mins each day… And it return they play the silent shrink!! stoic and non-judgmental…

Just to be clear, they will scratch your furniture, be completely nosy, jump on tabletops when you are having a meal…but that is just like the bad habits of any companion…

So in the name of a sustainable lifestyle as you don’t have to invest in electrical gadgets to keep yourself occupied, you will be saner, you will get fitter running around the house looking for them, you will walk to the vet and back…too many pluses on this one…I rest my case…
